VARAS MALCA, RAFAEL MARTIN
Estudios de pregrado en Biología (Universidad Ricardo Palma) y posteriormente becario CONCYTEC en el programa de maestría en Ciencias del Mar (Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia), dentro del proyecto "Clima, paleoambientes y biodiversidad en sistemas marinos", con una tesis en Paleontología. En este contexto, accedí a una beca del American Museum of Natural History y otra del Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County para revisar las colecciones científicas de Paleontología y Mastozoología. Investigador del Departamento de Paleontología de Vertebrados del Museo de Historia Natural de la UNMSM (2008- ), y past coordinador del mismo (2014-2016). Participación en diversos proyectos multidisciplinarios en Ciencias de la Tierra con científicos de Europa, EEUU y Perú, lo cual se traducen en 20+ artículos científicos en revistas internacionales (índice H: 13). Realización de consultorías paleontológicas para empresas privadas y estatales. Participación en la actividad PAP “Gestión y promoción del Patrimonio Paleontológico”. del Área de Paleontología (Dirección de Geología Regional, INGEMMET). Mi investigación se centra en la evolución, paleontología y paleoecología de los carnívoros acuáticos (pinnípedos) y las faunas marinas asociadas. Investigador RENACYT nivel II. Jefe del Departamento de Paleontología del Museo de Historia Natural de la URP.
